Grammar School
At Classical Christian Academy (CCA), located in Aptos, CA, and servicing Santa Cruz and surrounding areas, we are dedicated to cultivating wisdom and virtue through a Christ-centered, classical approach. This journey begins in our foundational Montessori program, which builds the core skills necessary for lifelong learning, and culminates in the Lions' Gate program, which prepares our students for high school and responsible leadership.
Grammar School | Grades 2-6
At Chrysostom Classical Academy, we immerse grammar students in stories that help them gain knowledge and understanding of culture and their place in history. They learn arithmetic and how to observe God’s creation. While it is true that students at this age have a great capacity to absorb facts, and facts such as people, places, and dates provide a foundation on which to build deeper understanding, we strive to cultivate poetic knowledge—an experience of reality that is beautiful, awe-inspiring, even mysterious.
When learning about a math concept, period of history, science, or literature, students do focus on facts, but they also enjoy manipulatives, art, music, poetry, lively discussions, games, and more. They participate in recitations, plays, elective classes, physical education, and field trips. We endeavor to set out a feast of learning.
These varied experiences are intended to provide not just factual pegs upon which to hang deeper learning but also sensory and emotional experiences that inspire the imagination, provide hope, and point to what is Good, True, and Beautiful. Along the way, students learn to read, write, and confidently present their ideas. Ultimately, we prepare grammar students to acquire wisdom in their logic and rhetoric studies.
